SENSORY PROCESSING DISORDER TREATMENT WITH OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Q: What is a Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)?

A: Sensory Processing Disorder refers to the way the nervous system receives messages from the senses and turns them into appropriate behavioral and motor responses.

This disorder 'exists when sensory signals are either not detected or don't get organized into appropriate responses'. Read more about this here.

WHAT WE OFFER AT LIGHTHOUSE THERAPY FOR SPD:

We offer many different activities to make your child feel more comfortable, secure, and able to focus. Activities include jumping into a ball pic, crashing into a mountain of huge pillows, spinning in a protected swing, crawling through enclosed tunnels, jumping on a trampoline, and many other activities in our sensory gym. We also offer "brushing", which is for children who find the sensations of what most would consider "normal" touch - feel of clothing against our skin, walking barefoot, etc.
